How to measure your foot correctly and find the ideal size for your SHUU barefoot shoes
Choosing the right size is key to fully enjoying the barefoot experience. In this comprehensive guide, we'll show you step-by-step how to accurately measure your feet, interpret our size chart, and find the model that suits your unique gait. Whether it's your first pair of SHUU Barefoot shoes or you're already a fan, you'll find all the information you need to shop with confidence and ease.
Below, we explain step by step how to accurately measure your feet at home and how to interpret the size chart to find your number. Walk as if you were barefoot, with the perfect fit.
What do you need?
-
A sheet of paper (larger than your foot)
-
A pencil or pen
-
A ruler and measuring tape
-
Your bare foot
Step 1: Place the paper on a flat surface
Place the sheet on the floor, against the wall. Make sure it doesn't move.
Step 2: Stand barefoot on the paper
Place your heel against the wall and make sure you are standing upright, with your feet bearing weight and all the weight distributed naturally.
Step 3: Mark the foot length and metatarsal width
With a pencil, draw a straight line right where your longest toe ends. Draw the outline of your entire foot, especially the metatarsal area, the widest part of your foot. Repeat the process with your other foot, as there may be a slight difference between them. This drawing will allow us to determine the length and width of your foot.
Step 4: Measure the length and width distance
Use the ruler to measure from the edge of the paper (where your heel was) to the line you marked (the tip of your longest toe) to find the length. Do the same, measuring from the two lines you drew to mark the width measurement, the metatarsal area.
Step 5: Measure the instep volume
Use a sewing tape measure or a strip of paper to measure the circumference of your instep. Measure all the way around the instep, including the sole, and you'll have your instep volume measurement. You can compare this measurement to the Instep Volume column in the size guide. This measurement will help us determine if your instep is low, medium, or high, allowing us to find the best fit for your foot.
Step 6: Compare your measurements with the size chart (below this text)
Consult our size chart specifically for barefoot footwear. Find the measurement in centimeters and locate the corresponding size. Always use the measurement of your longest foot as a reference.
How to read the size chart when you have your tights?
LONG MARGIN: For closed shoes, the ideal margin is between 0.8 and 1.2 cm. For example, if your foot measures 24.2 cm, I recommend size 39, which measures 25.5 cm, even though it will give you 1.3 cm of extra space. Size 38, which measures 24.8 cm, will be too tight with only 6 mm of room. Always check that the margin between your foot measurement and the insole measurement is between 0.8 and 1.2 cm. *This will depend on how you prefer your shoes to fit, whether you like them tighter or looser.
MEDIUM FOOT/INSTEP: The width of your foot and the volume of your instep measure the same as our last (as indicated in the size chart)
NARROW FOOT/LOW INSTEP: The width of your foot and the volume of your instep measure less than our shoe last (as indicated in the size chart)
WIDE FOOT/HIGH INSTEP: The width of your foot and the volume of your instep measure more than our shoe last (as indicated in the size chart)
Tip: If you're between sizes, choose the larger one; your toes will thank you. If this is your first time buying our barefoot shoes, don't rely on your usual shoe size or that of another barefoot brand, as each brand has its own sizing system. I always recommend that you measure your feet and consult our size guide, and if you have any questions, we're here to help and advise you. Measuring your feet correctly is the first step to walking with complete freedom. With well-fitting barefoot shoes, you'll rediscover the pleasure of walking naturally.
NOTE: Our BIG SHUU barefoot footwear They offer more width than our standard insole, up to 5-7mm more, and their leather is so soft they fit like a glove. Models with an adjustable system can fit many feet, even if your foot measures a few millimeters shorter or longer than our standard last. Models lined with sheepskin will fit well even for feet narrower than our standard last.
